GOP Debate

I realize that I haven't been updating my blog as much as I'd like. Been immersed in several different things during my work day, including slapping a sports blogger in his face on a daily basis. However, with tonight's GOP Debate, I should have plenty of material for posts in the days to come.

Republican of the Day May 27, 2011

Today's Republican of the Day is Mitt Romney. Today I'll take a break from ripping into the GOP and instead point out something pretty funny.

Mitt was in Chicago and had ordered pizza for his staff. Turns out, they had ordered too many. So rather than just toss it out, they did something better. Sent it to the Obama2012 Chicago Office.

Well played, Mittens, well played.

Republican of the Day May 25, 2011

Today's example of monumental Republican idiocy is Representative Paul Broun (R-GA). This epitome of short-sightedness said at a town hall meeting that he would vote against raising the debt ceiling unless major cuts were made to the Federal budget. When asked by his constituents which cuts should be made, he said, get his...."I propose getting rid of the Department of Education. I'd like to get rid of the Department of Energy as well."

So, unless we seriously hamper education, alternative energies and our ability to maintain our nuclear stockpile (did you know that the Dept. of Energy is responsible for that, Congressman?), he'd prefer to have the United States default on our debt and risk the chance that the dollar is no longer considered the reserve currency globally.

That's some fine politickin' Paul. You've convinced me to support your opponent both in the primaries and general election in 2012.

Introduction

I've started this blog at a crucial time in our country's history. Gone are the Republicans of Lincoln, Goldwater and Rockefeller. Now we are represented by the likes of Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Glenn Beck.

It disgusts me to see the party that I grew up with, identified with, and shared beliefs with hijacked by the religious fundamentalists, homophobes, Birthers, and those that espouse small government but turn around and advocate that the government has the right to tell you what to do with your own body, what you can and cannot ingest, and who you can and cannot be married to.

It's time to take back our Party, pragmatic Republicans. We may not agree with everything that Democrats do, say, or preach, but let's be civil about it. The shrill harpies that dominate the news coverage with every tweet, every Facebook post, and every two minute segment on Fox News have got to understand that we won't take it anymore.

It's my goal with this blog to follow the 2012 Presidential election and highlight the ridiculousness of the modern GOP. I'll try to do so with tact, facts, their own damning words.

With that said, sit back, strap in, and enjoy the ride. November 2012 is going to be a watershed moment for the Republican Party. Will we allow it to be ransacked by the TEA Party fringe, or will we refuse to allow ourselves to drop deeper into insanity?
